Creggs Parish is the combination of two of the historical parishes of Elphin Diocese, Glinsk and Kilbegnet. Eighty percent of the parish is in County Galway with the remainder in County Roscommon. Prior to the Local Government Act of 1898, the entire parish was in Galway. The Act transferred several townlands from Galway, to the County of Roscommon.
