Mrs. John Barrett died at her home in Fremont twp., Winneshiek county, on Jan. 28th, after a lingering illness of over two months, caused by influenza and pneumonia. She was 58 years old and leaves to mourn, her husband and five sons - Manly, John and Will who have been in the U.S. service the past year; Thomas, Clement and James at home. Her third son, Edward, aged 19 years, died of influenza about the time the mother was taken sick.
Of other relatives there are her sister Mary Daly and brother William Daly of Cresco and John Daly of Harmony; also their relatives and a large circle of friends. All that medical skill and loving hands could do was done to prolong her life, but all in vain. She had fought the good fight and won the crown which is laid up for her in heaven.
The funeral was held on Jan. 31st attended by a large concourse of relatives and sympathizing friends. Services were conducted by Rev. Father Tebeau of Plymouth Rock and the body was laid to rest in the ajoining cemetery which is on the old homestead of her parents.
